Summer is ending in Traverse City

14 08 2012

After a Summer of crazy heat, dripping sweat and a few rescheduled photo shoots because the temperature was nearly 100, suddenly all the sizzle fizzles out and we have a quick cool down.  Such a strange summer.  But with the cool weather will come the beautiful fall colors which are really perfect for cozy warm family photos.  The colors around here are brilliant in the fall!

Senior portraits time is quickly running out!  Most seniors around here need to have their senior picture in by October so if you haven’t booked yours you better hurry.  Summer bookings are limited and Fall is filling up.

Hurry up and call me before time runs out!  or before it snows.  Ha ha, it is Northern Michigan after all!

Beautiful and Easy Baby Announcements

26 06 2012

This is something I like to do for my newborn parents.  Creating a custom made baby announcement not only helps save them the time they’d have to spend shopping for just the right one, but gives them a custom annoucement that is an actual photo of the newborn and very inexpensive to print.

Check out our sample below and if you are expecting a newborn give me a call, let me come to you and take beautiful pictures of your bundle!

Exploring Traverse City

20 05 2012

This weekend we went on a little exploring excursion to find the perfect place for engagement photos for a shoot I’m doing next week.  I already know that we are going to do some shots in the late morning at the State Hospital Grounds, but I wanted to find a good place for a late afternoon/Golden Hour shoot.  Something that would look great in sunlight and the softness you get with that kind of shoot.   I really think I found it with the Olsen Bridge trail!  All the areas pictured are very close to the trailhead so perfect for a quick trek and some great pictures.

Why I Love Whimsy

17 05 2012

One of the definitions of “whimsy” is : a fanciful or fantastic device, object, or creation especially in writing or art.  I think that is what I love to do.  Create fantastic and fanciful photos (that, my friends, is alliteration).  I don’t just take one photo of you, your family or event and give it to you on a disk, no sir-that would be too easy.  I take that one photo and make it as perfect as I possibly can and then I go completely guano-crazy and make different versions of them with different effects.  Each with a whole look and feel of it’s own.  I made literally EIGHT versions of this photo.  Some of them are crazier than others, but I LOVE the dramatic, the intense, the photo that tells a story.  I want someone to look at the picture and wonder what is  happening, what she is thinking… what did she just do?

And here, for your viewing pleasure a beauty I shot last month.

Along the Boardman

Mobile blogging, how fun! This is shot I took with my outdated iPhone while on my run this afternoon. And by run I mean a too brisk jog that winded me more quickly than it should have and resulted in a nice walk.

Once a week I am lucky enough to run with my friend Suzanne. She is one of my very favorite people and expressed that she’d like to one day run. She had never run a whole mile in all her years (won’t say how many of them there are but she doesn’t look a day over 40) but recently she realized that dream! About two months later and she is up to 2 miles!

She’s always enjoyed our time together, as have I, but the running itself was boring and in circles around the Traverse City Civic Center. Then one day my sister decided to scope out the Boardman trail near the library- and fell in love.

She made me chase her ass on a four mile run and then I fell in love too. So I brought Suzanne. Since she’s only up to 2 miles we parked at one end and left a car, then drove to the start. And then she fell in love. She said she never imaged running could be flowers, birds, swans, lapping water and sunshine. But that is exactly what it is here.

Being a portrait photographer in Traverse City, I’m always on the lookout for the next great location. Along this two mile stretch there are brick walls, broken stone steps leading to the river, wooden walkways and bridges, gazebos and more trees than you could hope for!

Now that I’ve discovered this nifty little place I want to explore for more.

And now you have a brief little moment from my run, I hope you enjoyed it.
